WEST HORIZONS

“Landscape photography can offer us, I think, three verities - geography, autobiography, and metaphor.” Robert Adams
WEST HORIZONS is a long-term photographic project located throughout the United States. It diverts the aesthetics of the great mythical American horizons in order to question the relationship of man and his territory.
Due to the size of the country and the project's modus operandi - five journeys, 35,000 kilometers of road trips - this series provides a comprehensive understanding of the current era, the Anthropocene, defined by the global impact of human activities on the ecosystem, which could lead to a sixth mass extinction.
To do this, WEST HORIZONS puts contemporary environmental damage into perspective with traces of destruction from the past: the last mass extinction, the extermination of Indian peoples, and contemporary land appropriation and exploitation.
Paradoxically, thanks to its vast road network - the longest in the world - the United States has the unique characteristic of offering landscapes on the scale of a continent, which bear the imprint of various geological and historical upheavals, of current environmental damage and situations revealing the recklessness of predatory behavior.
Connecting them and putting them into perspective collectively allows us to question our relationship with the environment and the rate of disappearance of the living being that is currently in progress.
